Want a Large Family? Think Again.

Is it just me or is there some strange new fashion trend to have over 8 kids? We have shows like Jon & Kate Plus 8 and 18 Kids And Counting sensationalizing the joys that come with being in a large family.
I represent a minority of people who can say that they live in a large family and I can tell you that it's not all fun and games. I was the second oldest of nine children and we fought allot. everyday someone was getting hurt or was fighting for whatever reason.
If you are a couple thinking of taking on a ship-crew full of kids read the rest of this first. It takes a certain type of person to manage and discipline a fleet of children. You have to be the kind of person who never stresses out, never looses their cool or temper and doesn't mind noise and working on zero sleep. If you think that this is you than by all mean go for it, but I'm being serious. Unlike the T.V. screen when you get tired of the show you can't just turn it off.

LOVE that comment! lol. So true.
I'm from a family of 6. While there are some advantages (with that many, you're bound to find someone you really like), the disadvantages are greater, in my opinion. I couldn't wait to leave to get some peace, quiet and privacy!
From my experience, most people who grew up in large families HATED it! Oh, they outwardly claimed that they enjoyed being part of a large family. However, subconsciously, they hated it. They hated sharing time and space with their siblings. They remarked that their siblings were hemmorrhoids.
They stated that they hardly had any time to themselves. They further complained that they received inadequate attention.
They often voiced jealously and envy of people who come from small families who enjoyed time with their families and their privacy. Many times when I heard people from large families complaining about their childhood lives, I interject that I was very happy to be the only child. They just glared at me.
Many people from large families state that once they became teenagers, they seldom stayed at home because there was no privacy. For example, my mother never liked to stay at home and is constantly on the go. This stems from her being the oldest of ten children. She had to get away from home fast to get a life of her own.
I, on the other hand, am a homebody. I can stay at home for weeks at a time. As a teenager, I seldom went out and many of my friends from large families state that I wasm always at home. DUH! I had a lot of personal space and privacy at home-so why go out!
It is worst for the oldest child in a large family. Many oldest children in large families hated being the lackey in their families. My mother, who was the oldest of ten children, stated that her mother is stupid and totally dysfunctional, adding that she was sick of them calling her all the time. She stated that she was blessed to have A BEAUTIFUL, INTELLIGENT, and INDEPENDENT ONLY CHILD! Amen!

But some people from large families like it. I am from a family of 6 which is not actually that large, and I was only able to have 4 in my family. I love my family and it is great!
Keep on hubbing!
